He co-authored a book, Teaching History with Film. The book is designed for in-service or pre-service teachers to create models for using specific, positive examples of teacher's powerful use of films in the classroom. It focuses on different ways to think about things when showing films. Beyond these materials, however, the participants were encouraged to consider in general terms the problems and opportunities that this kind of instruction presents.
The result was a succession of broad and illuminating assessments of the ways film can be used in the teaching of history. Film is far from simple to use in the classroom, as it often covers fiction as well as fact, and the process of analysing film as a historical source is complex.
